We now know that homelessness is a housing problem. Houston is cheap. DC is not. That's why many desirable cities have homeless problems. Many homeless people work and still can't afford housing. Fairfax definitely did some things that helped. Our government won't do it, like bringing ALL homeless services within one agency (actually Houston did do that). I love DC, but folks keep reelecting Bowser. Why, I have no idea. No, I don't think it's because there is one party rule here. |
| Obviously people have reasons for where they want to be but all of us end up living where we can afford, not in areas we want to live. There has to be some life coaching for homeless folks. |
Sensible comments... but crickets... |
What’s there to say? When you announce you’re a sanctuary city you have to be a sanctuary city. |
I've had to move when cost of living got too expensive or when my income went down. Not sure why other people think they are somehow entitled to a status quo of where they live, when the rest of us aren't. If anything, part of the solution should include helping people find a job they can hold, and resettling them in an apartment somewhere that they can actually afford, even if it's not DC. There are a lot of places hiring around the country. |
You are stuck on stupid. You keep saying "sanctuary city" as if it has any relevance. Again, for the 20th time, "sanctuary city" DOES NOT mean we will house, feed and clothe you. It ONLY means we don't check what your immigration status. |
The places that do check are in the right for moving people along. We should change the law if it's too much for us to handle. |
So easy to take this position when you have no skin in the game and somewhere else far away is bearing the burden. Fake compassion. |

Facts. |
Exactly right. |
This is flat wrong. Homelessness is drug use not housing. And Houston is not cheap. It is less expensive than NYC or DC but housing is more expensive than other Tx cities, and income is lower. Comments like the above are why homelessness will never be met with a viable solution in DC |
And it is the 2nd most populous state. Seems that ATX is doing much better than CA, NY, FL |
|
It needs to be solved at the federal level like it was a national security problem.
Buy land in remote places, using imminent domain or something similar if necessary. Build very basic housing as in room and board, separated by gender (the whole facility is single gender). Anyone with a track record of being homeless for more than 6 months is sent to this place or jail, their choice. Good food and involuntary medical treatment are given to people. They are free to leave but it’s very remote. Wraparound services are available on a strictly voluntary basis. Basically a nice hotel with meds where you stay for free. The system for those who aren’t chronically homeless stays as it is now. |
National Guard now called out In Massachusetts because the locals hate having the migrants there so much. I thought the bus rides were a dumb “own the libs” gesture, but it really has been a master stroke of making every state become a border state to show what it’s like. |
