Screen time and bus rides

It seems like we need to rein it in once she’s home. But she only communicates with friends over text and all her “homework” is online. How are the middle school parents handling screen time?

What’s wrong with screen time? Screens are a big part of modern life.

However beyond that they only have time limits on social media (30 minutes a day) and a hard cutoff/downtime in the evening. Beyond that I leave them to manage it with the above parameters in place. I should also add that both have strenuous extra curriculars that keep them busy as well.

Your kid isn’t a toddler anymore. Just let them play on their phone during the boring bus ride.

Chill out. Once your child is in middle school you need to stop talking about "screen time." If you have an issue with what apps they're using, delete them. But if they're just playing games or whatever to pass the time on the boring bus ride or watching reasonable YouTube videos at home, whatever. They're not a baby.
