Odyssey of the Mind starts in kindergarten. My 3rd grade team was a motley crew of kids who don’t socialize outside of school and they really came together and formed friendships.

If your kid is one who needs some help socializing, I will add that OotM seems to me like an organization run by neurodivergent adults for neurodivergent kids. It’s got some strict rules and structure for more rigid, possibly autistic kids and room to be as imaginative and creative as possible for the ADHD kids who need a space to just be themselves too. With the right coach, it can really let every type of kid shine while helping them appreciate the unique contributions each of their peers can offer.

Honest question -- why are you trying to force social interaction? Some kids are just introverts. If this is more ASD-like concerns, I agree with the recommendation to pursue an IEP and social skills groups. You may also look into afterschool enrichment activities that are held at school. Scouting is also generally very inclusive and has some adults supervising the social interactions. I am a troop leader and I would not let the other girls leave someone out, plus most of what you learn at the lower ages is about being kind to friends, caring for the planet, etc. All very wholesome.
