Do other places recommend the same? It seems long.

I think 3 mos is forever for a swimmer. Look up the basis for the rec, and use your judgment as to whether you are willing to take the risk. Well- chlorinated pools are different than natural bodies of water, for example.

We.had a great experience at Bethesda Tattoo, but had to time.piercing between winter and spring soccer leagues.

Not in Montgomery county but the best place I found is Craig Pokes You in Arlington. Completely worth the drive over there.

Just an FYI about Craig’s and perhaps other piercing/tattoo places— they did not use a numbing cream and my kid nearly passed out. It was her second piercing. The first piercing was done with numbing cream at the pediatrician with a piercing gun. So just check into that if you go to a piercing/tattoo place. I didn’t even think to ask ahead of time. Also 3 months no swimming per their instructions.

She claims she’ll never get another piercing after her experience. So that’s at least a good outcome🤣

A Google search suggests 2-3 weeks, which is doable, wasn't sure if 3 months is the newest rec for everywhere. It seems very conservative. My swimmer would never be able to get piercings until she quit.

We went to Bethesda Tattoo and they did use numbing cream.

My daughter got her ears pierced at Craig Pokes You for her 16th birthday. She said it was painless and she hasn’t had any problems with her ears. I recommend them.

Good experience with Rachel at Tattoo Paradise in Rockville for my daughter. Included a post piercing check a few weeks later.

I think she didn’t swim for a couple of weeks, it definitely wasn’t months.

+1

She recommended a long time, so my daughter did it after a beach vacation but only out of pool a few weeks.

We’ve had good experiences at Fattys Tattoo in Silver Spring. DD has been back for multiple piercings and I ended up following suit to pierce my ears as well. We are both extremely allergic and had to get the extra-hypoallergenic starter earrings, so it was expensive. Studs in Georgetown is less than 1/2 the price, but the “hypoallergenic” section on their website wasn’t very hypoallergenic, so I didn’t trust them in our situation.
