| Many of us who want private school schlep across the bridge - all good |
The City of Alexandria does not send students to TJ in a misguided attempt at so-called equity. It’s one of the worst run school districts in the DMV. Smart City of Alexandria kids who can afford it go to privates in DC. |
| Because the privates you listed don't have better academics than FCPS. If you have the money for Madeira, you have the money for a house in-bounds for Langley. Whereas in DC, a middling neighborhood Catholic school blows DCPS out of the water. |
| Every single kid at TJ easily holds his or her own the the best privates in DC and Maryland. And each graduating class at TJ is as Big as the Big 3 graduating classes combined. And it’s free. Between that and Potomac NOVA is served just fine. |
Da fuq? |
Anyone from the south knows that is total horse puckey where the NOVA counties are concerned. The south used to start somewhere around Manassas, but it probably pushed farther out now with the suburban sprawl. The evidence one could cite is endless. |
TJ kids are great at taking tests, but would not survive socially at the top privates. They don’t focus on social skills at TJ. |
“Surviving socially?” Sounds like fun. |
Not true. I know plenty of socially skilled TJ students. And plenty of socially inept "top private" students. (For the record, I attended a top private.) |
That’s funny. |
| Virginia in has a tradition of magnet "Governor's Schools." The two most famous are TJ and Maggie Walker, but there are many others in other parts of the state. |
Wow, prejudiced much? |
Not even the majority of smart kids in NoVa go to TJ. Their class size is about 400 and acceptance for even brilliant students is not guaranteed. |
I do a bunch of interviewing for my college and in general I find the TJ kids brilliant but socially awkward |
Of course not. But the smartest ones do. |
