I crashed my car

Yes, your adjuster is correct. A "totaled" car does not mean a completely destroyed vehicle. It just means the insurance doesn't think it's worthwhile to pay for repairs, and deployed airbags means it will be expensive.

Thank you for asking. Not 100% okay, but it'll heal.

That's modern cars. They are designed to self-destruct the car to create a safety bubble for occupants. Very expensive.

If other car was speeding you might not be totally at fault, but that's hard to prove.

Thank you all, and I feel the warmth coming through. I'm glad to have asked, and can proceed knowing he's totally telling it like it is.

Cars do speed and it's hard to prove. Slow down everyone! If the other driver were speeding, even though s/he was not at fault, I'm sure they are equally inconvenienced and peeved.

Sounds like it.

I entered the intersection when a vehicle without a stop sign was also entering the intersection. Not quite sure how that happened, as I'm usually a defensive driver.

Always look right-left-right-left over a period of three seconds. The time lapse and double look make a huge difference.

Sorry for you. You get blue book value for your car. If you have something like a brand new engine you might get a few more hundred dollars.

What happened to the other car?

My daughters car was recently totaled, even the the airbags didn’t deploy. If the car had been on, I’m sure the airbags would have deployed. It was parked. The first estimate on repairs was about $12K. They gave her $16.5K for the vehicle.

A PP is correct. You can see what your insurance contract says and push for the insurance company to have it fixed. But, you will end up with a salvage title which may hurt if you plan to sell it in the future. Depending on your situation that may be worth it to you.

The insurance company could refuse to cover the car.

Yup happened to me three years ago, guy ran a red light and immediately claimed fault. Two airbags deployed and they totaled the car. Tons of damage and it really did suck- low mileage, well maintained, all of it. Sorry that happened but agree it all sounds correct. I’m glad you’re ok. Look out for things later.

Unless I missed it, you didn’t mention if the other driver was injured? You very well might be sued, since you were at fault.

Glad you’re mostly ok! Cars can be replaced, people cannot.

OP, did the police come and were you ticketed? In VA if the other driver was far exceeding the speed limit, they may be deemed at fault.
