Garland appoints/elevates Wiess to Special Counsel Role

Bad move by Garland. Looks like Weiss requested it. He should have denied Weiss’s request and appointed someone else.

Why? Weiss has been on the case for years. It wouldn't make sense to bring someone new in to get up to speed.

Yawn. Another Nothingburger.

Good. Maybe there can be some factual reporting about this vs the conspiracies being hawked by the right. If Hunter belongs in jail, fine. He’s an inept private citizen who hasn’t lived his life very well. But I’ve seen nothing factual that implicates Joe - who has spent his life in service of our country (unlike the grifting Republicans on the scene in the past 8 years).

Looks like the pending gun charge is unconstitutional

So that just leaves the tax charges.

Administration is playing chess with this. This is just another cover up.

Special Counsel investigations don’t shut down Congressional investigations.

They got their wish. Why are they complaining about it now?

"Now, Merrick Garland expects us to trust Weiss to be the Special Counsel that finally brings Hunter Biden to justice."

Donald Trump appointed David Weiss.

If Weiss has always had authority to decide when, where, and who to charge,(per Garland's comments) why does he need this status?

More important questions....

Why Weiss? It has been demonstrated that he was ineffective in handling this case so far. Not only through whistleblower testimony, but as evidenced by the appearance in court.

Is this to protect him from testifying before Congress?
Is this to ensure that charges will be minimal as we have seen thus far?
Is it an effort to protect Joe?

Time will tell.........

He was appointed precisely because he is ineffective.

Yep. It's a sham. You would think Garland would know the rules:

§ 600.3 Qualifications of the Special Counsel.

(a) An individual named as Special Counsel shall be a lawyer with a reputation for integrity and impartial decisionmaking, and with appropriate experience to ensure both that the investigation will be conducted ably, expeditiously and thoroughly, and that investigative and prosecutorial decisions will be supported by an informed understanding of the criminal law and Department of Justice policies. The Special Counsel shall be selected from outside the United States Government. Special Counsels shall agree that their responsibilities as Special Counsel shall take first precedence in their professional lives, and that it may be necessary to devote their full time to the investigation, depending on its complexity and the stage of the investigation.

Hmm, pray tell, what was Durham’s job right before he was appointed SC? And what other job did he have for the first 8 months of his SC tenure?

You can ask the same about Mueller.

Fact is.... Weiss is part of the DOJ. This is not a special counsel, but a DOJ investigation and it stinks to high heaven.

Because of WHO Garland appointed. He is not qualified for special counsel, according to statute.

“Per Garland’s comments” I note that you don’t recognize that Weiss himself has told congress this as well?

Special counsels still testify before Congress when requested. Both Mueller and Durham did so.

Not during the investigation.
And, multiple whistleblowers and witnesses have directly contradicted what Garland, and Weiss, have said.

The IRS witnesses leaked the investigation and have their own legal exposure, and Archer has not implicated anyone in any illegalities, but other than that, sure.

No, they didn't.

No, you can’t. Mueller was in private practice when he was tapped.

House Oversight Statement

The DOJ is attempting a Biden family coverup.

Moments ago, AG Garland announced he is designating U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss as special counsel for the Biden criminal investigation. This is part of the DOJ’s efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup in light of our Committee’s mounting evidence of President Joe Biden’s role in his family’s schemes selling “the brand” for millions of dollars to foreign nationals.

The Justice Department’s misconduct and politicization in the Biden criminal investigation already allowed the statute of limitations to run with respect to egregious felonies committed by Hunter Biden. Justice Department officials refused to follow evidence that could have led to Joe Biden, tipped off the Biden transition team and Hunter Biden’s lawyers about planned interviews and searches, and attempted to sneakily place Hunter Biden on the path to a sweetheart plea deal.

Let’s be clear what today’s move is really about. The Biden Justice Department is trying to stonewall congressional oversight as we have presented evidence to the American people about the Biden family’s corruption. Our Committee will continue to follow the Biden family’s money trail and interview witnesses to determine whether foreign actors targeted the Bidens, President Biden is compromised and corrupt, and our national security is threatened. We will also continue to work with the House Committees on @JudiciaryGOP and @WaysAndMeansGOP to root out misconduct at the Justice Department and hold bad actors accountable for weaponizing law enforcement powers.

There is no statute. It’s a DOJ policy that you’re quoting from, not a law.
