Age need Carseat question

I was 11 turning 12 in 7th grade. Couldn't imagine still being in a booster.

My DD will be 9 in a few months. She is very small so is still in a 5 point car seat whose limits she is still well under. She sometimes asks why other kids her age (and even size) get to ride in boosters and I explain to her that in our family we prioritize safety. End of story.

How small is she? My DD is 8.5 (turns 9 in March) and she has been in a booster for a while. She is probably around 56-58" tall and weighs around 65 pounds.

If it bothered him i would let him out of it but he really doesn't care.

Like you, we keep our petit 10 year old in a 5 point harness. Her older brother is 12 and still sits in a high back booster. I plan to allow them to ride in the front seat at 15.

We prioritize safety over peer pressure.

You can’t be serious. A 12 year old is a 6th grader. I don’t believe you still have a 6th grader sitting in a high back booster.

Pat yourself on the back that you have reduced your kid's risk of death in a car accident by 0.000000001% vs the other family you know.

PP here - okay well that makes sense. That is the same weight as my 3 year old and only a few inches taller. He is obviously still in a full car seat.

You know a booster isn't inherently safer, right? If the seatbelt fits him without a booster (crosses his chest, not his neck and lays low across lap, not across belly) then you aren't doing anything good by keeping him in a booster. In fact, you may be mis-positioning the belt.

This. How embarrassing to roll up to K in a 5 point. I know one family who did this. They are insane.

Pp here - yes just about. He is 99th percentile for height and weight.

NP but my two boys have both been 40-45 lbs at age 3. They’re 90th and 98th percentile or higher for both height and weight, healthy BMI.

My DD is closer to average weight/height and didn’t hit 40 lbs until she was already 5.

The seat belt fits better with a booster than without one but its mostly there so he can see out the windows better and have some head support when he wants to sleep for long car rides.
