Going to a top 10 Private or top 5 public schools is a hook, esp now that average AO has been on the job for less than 3 years.
These are known knowns. Also, no top 10 private here. We do have 1 top five public. |
What is a top five public? TJ? Top 5 in the US?? |
|
One of my DD's friends from school was a Davidson Fellow in lit, Regeneron finalist, Presidential Scholar. She got accepted to HYP,M,S
Another kid in her class was composing music and competing internationally he was accepted to HYP,S,M he was also taking Physics C and MVC in 8th grade. |
| TJ is a top 5 public (in the USA, per any list) |

This kind of a kid. She is in Stanford now https://www.youthassembly.org/2021/09/21/natalie-hampton/#:~:text=She%20is%20a%20counselor%20for,campus%20of%20Children's%20Institute%20Inc.
Another kid I know attended MOP twice, he is going to MIT to study CS More on MOP In 2021, 60+ students were invited to this selective program from a pool of over 132,000 AMC 10/12 participants. https://www.maa.org/the-mathematical-olympiad-program-mop |
The first one is the kind of fake profile you pay a consultant for. Good for her that it worked. If you think she’s genuine, search for her app in the App Store |
I also know a kid who was selected for MOP a few years ago. He applied, but didn't make into HY. Went to MIT. |
Colleges don't want "smart" people. The want "successful" people. Nepo babies whose parents hire consultants to build junk apps for publicists to promote, and go on stage to shill at TEDx, are "successful", because they have powerful people in their corner. |
Haha, a salty kid at Whitman wrote an article attacking the app. https://theblackandwhite.net/58188/opinion/blogs/sit-with-us-app-does-more-harm-than-good/ |
+1 This one had lots of coaching and $$ from mom. Not the ideal candidate imo, but this sort of profile has worked in the past, maybe not so much anymore since this sort of thing has been copied ad nauseam. Take a look at what these packaged kids do post graduation and you can tell who was fake vs real. Much prefer the truly intellectually curious. |
| Unhooked? Top three or so in class, great test scores and some interesting extracurriculars are the floor. |
| My students who went to HPY were among the top of the class with great test scores, brilliant, had national or international level recognition, started their own initiatives, were always pushing themselves to be better and were intellectually curious and their peers recognized them as one of the best. Definitely helped to have a legacy parent or sibling or be under-represented (but that might be changing). This was before test optional. |
| “Pointy” as in exceptional at something. |
| I think like 33% of admits have legacy/athletics hooks. Most of the super smart "vanilla" kids (no URM) are private school connected but not legacy. Smart URMs are a hit. Other than that, I think they take two normal kids. |
| I think something like half of the CocaCola Scholars go to HYP (or maybe it’s all Ivy League schools and not those three?), so there is a formula and it’s very very high achievement, both in and outside of the classroom. |
