This is not true, Deal teachers make the supply list in June. The main office does not make the list for supplies. |
The main office combines what multiple teachers want into one list assuming everyone uses all of it. Very few do. |
| The annoying thing is that by the time DCPS gives out supply lists, the stores are out of a lot of supplies, especially big box stores in VA and MD. |
Deal teacher here-I use everything that I put on the supply list for students. I don't believe in wasting families money so I am always conscious of listing items that are actually needed. I always suggest buying early because too often things are sold out. |
Oh great. I just bought all the Deal supplies today for 6th |
| I am new to this so please help. I did see a list of school supplies put out by my school with the option to buy a box containing everything. So I purchase the box and bring it with the kid on the first day or school? |
Usually you purchase the box and have it shipped directly to the school. |
That would drive me nuts when the sales started weeks ago. |
This is not the case at our school (Janney). You order the box, it comes to your house and you bring it to school during the drop off times before school starts or you can bring it in on the first day. If it shipped to the school, I would bother to buy the box. |
Last year at Hardy, they sent out a supply list *after* school started, asking for stuff by the next week. Because you were really wanting to go digging through the few school supplies left out there over Labor Day weekend. Hopefully, the new admin team will be quicker. |
That's nuts. At Maury, they give you the link to buy the box before the previous school year ends, and the box ships to the school. You can also buy multiple boxes to make up for those who might not order one. |
| Our schools are better funded than any state other than New York. How come they're making parents buy things like paper towels and hand soap? |
Because the funding goes to teachers, paras, and keeping class sizes small. That's a lot more expensive than school supplies. |
LOL. Maybe if you don't live in NW. |
