| I worship my Speed Queen! |
| We are moving from our crappy 1950s house where we had installed speed queens to a fancy new house with fancy new washer and dryer and I will greatly miss my speedqueens. |

Whatever you do, do not buy an Electrolux.
I bought an Electrolux dishwasher, after about two months it conked out. Called for warranty service, two weeks later they sent someone out, he couldn't fix it. I called and called and a month later he came back and couldn't fix it. This went on for six months, they never did fix it. They wanted to keep on trying and refused to replace it. Eventually I went back to the dealer I had bought it from, he was shocked at my experience, called up his contact at Electrolux and they shipped me a new machine. That machine lasted a few months before it broke. When I called for service they said that the warranty was only one year and since this had been a replacement machine the warranty started from the original purchase. So I scrapped it and bought a Bosch. From this experience I concluded that Electrolux has a quality problem, they know they have a quality problem and they have no interest in addressing it. |

I had a relatively new GE top loader hauled away and replaced it with a Speed Queen and I love it.
I also have an Electrolux front loader and I also love it. The Speed Queen does a great job with run of the mill laundry, but I have found that if I have something that has a difficult stain the Electrolux stain removal setting is almost a miracle worker. |
Switch to detergent sheets. They are great for the environment and tiny to store: Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets - Fresh Scent - No Plastic Jug (60 Loads) 30 Sheets, Liquidless Technology… https://a.co/d/ht8WQ6T |
I married mine and just celebrated our ten year anniversary! |
I feel for you, pp. I wish I had bought an extra set. |
| Okay, thanks all! I'm going to go see machines, I'm pretty certain we'll go with Speed Queen, just have to decide on the model. |
| I have a speed queen and like it, but honestly I've had just as good results from the basic, agitator style whirlpool washers. |
| Ohhh I made this exact decision a year ago. I visited maybe 10 appliance stores (total overkill but I became a bit obsessed) and talked with owners and appliance repairmen. Read hundreds of reviews. Going off of reviews I thought I wanted speed queen, but after talking with actual appliance people I went with Electrolux. The best washer and dryers are European - and they’re Miele and Bosch. Unfortunately they don’t come in full size which most Americans want (a ding against Speed Queen) so Electrolux is next best. In “blind trials” of which machine does the best job of actually cleaning clothes, there was no comparison. I do think Speed Queen would be great for low maintenance, long-time use. Wasn’t sure if I was ready to commit to one washer for, jeez, possibly the rest of my life? And bottom-line I need stains out of my clothes and SQ didn’t touch the dirt and grime that Electrolux did. I went with Electrolux, very happy. |
The house we bought had an Electrolux washer & dryer as well as an Electrolux dishwasher. The washer and dryer (2011 models) are great. The heating element on the dryer went out a few years ago and it was $$$ to replace, but otherwise the pair washes and dries beautifully and the capacity is fantastic. I hated the dishwasher (2013 model) and replaced it with a Bosch after 5+ years of misery from not-really-clean dishes that were always way too wet even after 12 hours overnight with the door open. I kept waiting for it to break but it never did, and I finally just went ahead and replaced it. |
The repairman I spoke with said as much. Repairs will arise but Electrolux parts are pricy, otherwise good machines. The Maytag I have needs a new board, which is pushing $800, and there could always be secondary issue. Since the model’s discontinued, soon enough a part won’t be available at all. He only grudgingly liked LG, but said parts are affordable. |
I posted above about my Electrolux washer, and it is amazing at stain removal. |
