Tried that a few years ago; but it was not a good fit....

Cub scouts are not Scouts.

Find a nearby troop - ask at school or they likely know someone or ones in a troop. 11 is really the year you can start. Look for a troop that does a lot of camping. Our kids’ troop did a camping trip once a month - including Jan/Feb. It’s a good middle school years organization.

You could try to get the into geocaching - that would take you to a variety of outdoor sites.

Thanks PP, but don't parents have to volunteer a lot in Scouts? I am a single Mom and do not have time for this.

Different poster, but no, you don't have to volunteer so much. Once a month, you drop the kids off Saturday morning and pick up Sunday! It is great! They will want you to help out in some way, but it does not have to be such a big thing, especially for someone in your position. It will be less of a time commitment than taking day trips every weekend!

Scouts sometimes gets a bad rap, but my two boys of similar ages have really liked all the activities.
