There’s no way. I drive by every day. It’s still a rock pit with a lot left to do. |
It's a sad commentary on Jackson that the only reason you think she'd speak out against the establishment is because her kids go there. |
PP you're responding to, and yep! Sadly her own personal interest is our only hope. |
It will open on time. The inside is almost done.
That’s not saying there won’t be construction after students are in the door, and that doesn’t mean last minute items won’t be rushed, but it will open on time. Everyone (including council and city staff approving permits) will insure it opens on time. Just hope ACPS has plans to deal with contractor safety while students are in school. To date, the area around the site (parking, etc) is pretty bad. |
I agree with this that it will open on ntime. I drive by it every day. The progress has been remarkable. What really astounds me is that with the exterior finished the building looks smaller than when it was just the steel beams. Then it looked horrifyingly huge. Now it looks much more in line with the neighborhood. They may have to go to 24/7 for punch list items but it is looking pretty good. The outside is a disaster still. If that can't be remediated then they'll have to set up walkways for the kids. |
Have the construction workers gotten background checks? I'm more worried about teacher, staff and student safety than contractor safety. I can't believe what parents in Alexandria willingly put up with when it comes to their kids. |
It's not ready. Another broken promise to the old Patrick Henry neighborhood.
Since George Mason is next and has such a tiny population (although ACPS is bringing in that autism program partially to pump up the enrollment numbers at GM) move them into the new MacArthur too. Clear the GM lot entirely since that is what is going to happen anyway. Maybe they won't be as far behind on GM as they are on MacArthur if they raze GM ASAP. That new middle school can't come fast enough. |
Yeah, it will be "ready" for the first day. It will probably eventually function properly by next January or later. Last Friday they were cleaning windows and completing the roof simultaneously. |
Have the workers gotten background checks? They will obviously be there for a while. |
They say it will be ready. Staff is already in the building. Anything that isn't completely done will happen afterschool hours, but the inside will supposedly be good enough for student even if the playground won't finished till October. |
So it isn't ready. |
Looks like it’s open and will be ready!! |
Like so many things at ACPS, it will look good superficially but will be a nightmare in reality—at least for the next few months. |
How was the first day in the new building? |
