When is the ideal time to take ACT and SAT

Do students take the PSAT more than once? I thought it was just the one time in junior year.

Our MCPS high school allows sophomores to take it as a practice run, but only the junior year counts for National Merit stuff.

Fall of junior year worked for my kid (and if you want a retake you can do Spring of junior year).

I have read that you should only take official College Board tests, not ones prepared by other companies.
