Absolutely bring at least 2 pairs of comfortable walking shoes that you feel good about wearing. I have no issue with sandals in NY (or DC) generally and walk everywhere possible vs public trans, but it does feel really, really gross if you get caught on the rain.
Go very simple with the clothing. My standard hot weather travel outfits are something like a couple of white or off white linen blouses (one long sleeve and one sleeveless) and fitted black t-shirts paired with cotton shorts, pants, and rigid denim. If you have space or are anything like me, be sure pack a couple clothing options because you might change your mind while there or do unexpected activities and maybe you’ll want a dressier option for fine dining experience or leggings/sneakers for a gym visit or yoga or workout class. |

| I live in NYC, and the nice thing about the city is that everyone just wears what they want and no one really cares what you're wearing. The most dressed up people I see are tourists in Soho. I regularly wear shorts, t shirts, and sneakers in the summer because NYC is hot and humid. Honestly the more dressed down you are, the more likely people are to think you're one of us. Just don't be fat. |
| Going to NY this weekend with my young adult- he will likely wear athletic wear during the day and change for our show- he will likely wear jeans or khakis and a button down shortsleeved shirt- easy to find at American Eagle. |
Not in this weather. Maybe fall but definitely not August. |
| Just went earlier this month. I would say most women, from 16 to 60, had some variation of sundress and fashion sneakers. |
