Having a housekeeper while paying $$$ for workout classes

Lol at trying to sell cleaning as a satisfying full body exercise routine. We all know it sucks.

He could clean and you could do yard work.

Nah, we’ll keep our soulcycle and Barry’s. Why do you care what other people do and spend their money on?

NP here. I don’t really care but people should be aware that they will have a lot less money to save and invest for the future when it gets spent on two things that are unnecessary if you did it yourself. Everyone has their preferences- it’s good to know the pluses and minuses of the choices available.

Huh. If I spend money, I won’t have it later. Gee, thanks!

Cleaning is a really good workout if you do it right. It has the added benefit of being extremely satisfying. And when you clean your own house, it promotes pride and joy in your home.

But a lot of wealthy people hire others to come and clean their home once a week or so, and then spend large sums on gym memberships, exercise gear, and workout classes. I mean, if you have money to burn, why not, but if you cleaned your own home you could probably cut back on how much you have to workout to stay in shape. A thorough, top to bottom, clean of our house offers great cardio and strength training. And can take a few hours, so good for endurance too.

Same thing with landscaping. Gardening is pleasurable, enables you to spend time outside, can be a form of fitness (pruning and weeding and hauling dirt or mulch definitely builds my muscles), and is something to be proud of. Why pay someone to do it when you could do it yourself and it's actually good for you?

I don't get it.

Gardening is pleasurable? This is crazy talk.

I think it's silly to pay some to do your labor and then pay someone else to make you do labor.

Good thing everyone is able to make their own choices. I pay people to do LOTS of my labor. Why not? We can afford it and I don’t enjoy doing it.

I have $12m saved. I don't think scrubbing my own floors will improve on it by much. Do you?

Cleaning does not bring me pride and joy in my home! Neither does gardening. I hate doing both of those things, but I love a clean home and a well kept yard. Why is it hard for you to understand most people hate things that bring you joy?

I love books, and I don’t really like TV or movies. Did you know that if you read a book, it’s 100x better than the movie version? Why don’t we stop all movies and TV and just have everyone read all the time?

No? I loathe cleaning my house. On the other hand, I enjoy barre classes. That said, I haven’t been to one since I had kids.

You do you.

But there is no way I'm losing the workout to clean toilets. It was the first thing we outsourced when we could afford to.

And also, on no planet is internal house cleaning equal
To the gym. Have you ever actually BEEN to a real exercise class?

Also, my maid is overweight. So, that's a data point against your argument.

I do all my own cleaning and keep a really spotless home and I’m still fat….I don’t think it’s all that strenuous

My spouse and I clean our own house and do all our own yard work. When our kids were little, we also did all of our own child care. Not only have we saved a lot of money over the years, but we are both very active and in good physical shape.

Lol gotta love people who don’t have to work telling others they’re doing it wrong.

I actually have time for a 30 minute daily workout. If I didn’t pay my cleaning lady to spend 3-4 hours cleaning my house, I’d have to send 4-5 hours doing it on a Saturday when I could be with my kids. It’s called opportunity cost.

Haha. My heart rate cleaning doesn’t get over 100. I hit 180 running in the heat today. Cleaning is not a cardiovascular workout, sorry.

+1000

I would rather lift weights than clean a toilet.
