Restaurants in Detroit

For variants Asian dishes. Slows is good, and Andiamo, Roma Cafe, or SheWolf for Italian. The Apparatus Room at the Foundation Hotel in the old DFD HQ is a hit.

We are driving through so will have a car

Activities: Pure detroit tour of fisher building and or guardian building on weekends (you can pop in on your own to marvel at it but it is nice to take a tour)

Detroit Institute of Arts for diego rivera mural

Michigan Train station which has been revamped by ford to be an event space

Renaissance building is quite intetesting and next to the riverwalk—marvel at canada across the river. You can take the monorail which is a loop and kind of the least useful public transit form i’ve ever used, i guess you get a third story view of downtown detroit?

Belle isle has a very wes anderson aquarium, plus you have the great lakes museum and botanic garden (all get a little crowded on weekends)

Motown museum is small but interesting

The area around third man records is a nice little street with avalon breads, some good little restaurants and bookshops, called cass corridor

You can tour the old packard plant, and they actually have tours of operational assembly lines of car manufacturers.

For greek food—a lot of the coney islands are owned by greek immigrants. A coney is a hot dog and the restaurants are called coney islands and you can find them all over. thry are basically diners, some are cash only.

I mentioned before that eastern market is coop and so is the russell industrial center next to eastern market, old factory turned artist lofts

There is probably better food in Detroit than in NOVA where you probably live. The worst food selections I have ever seen in my life were there, and I lived there for ten years.

We ate excellent food in Chicago and Milwaukee (at 2/3 the price of most food here) and I have no doubt Detroit has great food.

Yes, you must go to Dearborn. Just go to any place and it will be good! iI went to Hamido recently and it was so good! Not fancy. I can also recommend Arbeel Kabab. Get the family tray so you can try everything. It's only $34 and more than 2 people can eat.

Also, you have to try a coney island, and Buddy's pizza.

When was the last time you were in Detroit proper, though? I have been twice in the last six months, and the restaurant scene in downtown has really come back.
