TJ Chemistry 1 in summer

My TJ kid wanted to be a chemical engineering major. After chemistry, no longer wants to go that route.

Did you mean summer chemistry or regular TJ chemistry, or AP chemistry? Also, is he/she a rising sophomore or Junior?

OK. Guess it is tough or challenging to take for a summer course.

Why is this only open to TJ students?

FCPS summer school has summer chemistry 1 (online). TJ does not allow TJ students to take this class. It’s a completely different course. I have a kid who took the FCPS online summer chemistry and a kid who did TJ summer chem. Night and day. However, on their transcript it says exactly the same thing - FCPS summer school “chemistry 1”. No distinction at all. Unfair for the TJ kid who took a much more rigorous course but on transcripts it shows up the same as a kid who took the regular FCPS online summer chemistry course. colleges / scholarship programs won’t know TJ kids have to take the summer course in person, 7 hours a day with labs.

The TJ summer course has the honors Gpa boost. And the kids LEARN more. Thus summer course should be open to any FCPS student not just the TJ students.

Because it's a TJ class taught by a TJ teacher. Same reason why other TJ classes are only open to TJ students.

Yes. It does have the GPA boost, but the course listing on transcript simply says FCPS summer school Chemistry 1. It is taught by a team of TJ chemistry teachers.
