Why does our nanny state government allow these fireworks?

They do.
Every year.

And every year, it's the same old replies. People lodging legitimate complaints and concerns and people replying to those concerns with derision and mockery. It's ok if people get hurt or die because getting jollies is more important.

At least in D.C., it is actually legal to set off fireworks. In MoCo it's illegal, but the police refuse to enforce the law. I mean, 2 idiots blew up their own house in Damascus a couple of days ago and had to be sent to the hospital from prepping themselves for today. Maybe if the police actually ticketed violators, then these people would not have been so brazen? Maybe.

Not legal in DC, either. The law is not enforced whatsoever, but I'm fireworks that explode are not legal.

The hell they were. Red states are FAR more lax where it comes to firework sales. You'd be lucky to get sparklers in MA and many other blue states.

Yea the red statement comment made me laugh. Some people have never driven through the south on 95 and it shows.

It's impractical to enforce the law.

Hunker down with drinks and a movie, and let the wild ones have their day.

What nanny state? DC doesn’t enforce any laws. This is no different.

A bunch of people died last night in fireworks accidents. Not in DC but in other states. The death toll is pretty shocking.

An 11 year old was killed last year.

Part of the problem is that people don’t realize how powerful these fireworks are. They can literally blow your head off. They can create a six inch hole clean through your chest. It is insane that people are cool with this.

You.

Many of us engage in far more dangerous activities each day (e.g., driving) than setting off fireworks.

Most likely, no one. It will end up getting washed into storm drains and eventually be dumped in the anacostia river where it will remain for many years. Great job dc!
