I try not to drive. I also get to a window to watch the storm and hope for loud thunder/cool lightning. |
Even if you have a good sprinkler system you need to be aware of the amount of rain we are getting and the temps. |
They’re always when I need to pick my kids up from daycare, so mostly I ignore them except to spare a thought that I hope we don’t get caught in a downpour. But my kids need to be picked up and the time I can do that is limited so I can’t very well stay inside until the warning is passed. |
I have straight up gotten an alert on my phone to take shelter, looked out my living room window and said “No” and just kept scrolling. I don’t even know why but I don’t take any storm alert seriously. |
I don’t think I really focus on the watch/warning thing because if we’re going to be outside or traveling I’m checking the weather and radar anyway. |
I just plan accordingly. We had severe storms forecasted the other day but went to the lake. I just kept an eye on the radar on my phone and an ear out for distant thunder. We also avoid long hikes when a storm is predicted. |
They recently forecast 2-3 possible tornadoes in our area. We had rain. |
In DC proper, are there tornadoes?
Why would you need to not drive or shower in a thunderstorm? Asking because I’m moving to dc from a place that doesn’t get thunderstorms. |
One of my dogs is scared of thunder, so I put on some white noise and the air conditioner. |
There is a small, but nonzero risk of being hit by lightning. The safest course of action is to enter your basement and wait for the storm to pass. |
Since a tree fell through our house during a storm, they make me nervous. I charge my phone and keep an eye out. I avoid driving or walks, or at least take a route with fewer trees. |
