We got an email yesterday saying that they now have spots. It's staffed by teachers so they might have a little more understanding of your son's needs. Does your area have anything like that? Might be worth giving them a call now that waitlists are being shaken up.

What is SACC?

Same Age Child Care. It's what they call the after-school and supplemental childcare program in Fairfax. They have camps in the summer and options for some days off school.

I have heard good things about green acres. It’s a short summer but might buy some time. I’m the OP of the camp thread and I’m so sorry you are going through this. Options are not good. I have never had luck with a babysitter but you could try…

My asd & adhd boy goes to Bar-T outdoor ranch/mountainside camp. Even weather has not been that great with all those rain here, he is fine getting wet and getting a bit dirty. I am not sure if location is a bit too far for you, but my boy takes their bus to go there. They have canceled some pool time due to the rain/cold temp, and some of the daily activities have changed due to weather. It was not perfect weather the past week, but he seemed to be doing fine and happy.

He is energetic & chatty type, and he loves to play with other kids. He has some social deficit, and he does not mind going to any camp we have signed up or taking a camp bus without knowing anyone so far. He does not really have any true friends because he does not know how to maintain friendships. However, he seems to do okay playing and having a great time with different stranger kids. He has good time on all different camps I send him so far for the past summers, maybe he is more flexible than I thought to be. Bar-T camp has been his favorite so far, so he goes there every summer for multi-weeks.

This is very helpful, I will look into this.

Imagination Stage has a strong inclusion program (with 1:1 aides) so that could be a good fit! Not all of their camps are just focused on theater.

Meant to add - they have filmmaking if that’s an interest of his!

I was one of the posters on the other camp list. Be warned that while Imagination Stage may be able to accept some kids with ASD, it did not work out for us.

Also--they do not offer 1:1 aides. They may tell the parents that 1:1 aides are available and/or provided, but the reality is that they add one more teacher to the class, and that teacher supports all of the students in the class with disability supports. This is as of last week.

It depends on the student/class. I've worked at Imagination Stage as a 1:1 aide dedicated to a specific student and also as an inclusion counselor supporting multiple students in a class. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you!

DP: I have also heard great things about Bretton Woods, and was in touch with them two weeks ago. There was no openings in the adaptive program when we needed it, but it is worth reaching out to. As of last Thursday, the Alliance Pediatrics still had availability in the July 17-21 mini session. Good luck.

they are not interested in students attending their school with severe adhd and anxiety so i don't feel their camp would be well equipped either. they are worried about "safety issues"

Thank you everyone for the replies. I just spoke with the Bar-T coordinator and he seems to think that my son will be fine in their Ranch program. I am signing him up for 2 weeks and see how it goes. For the remaining time, we had hired a nanny. Autism is so hard to navigate as it's a spectrum and what the deficits are different from one kid to another.
