Oh the Franciscan Monastery in DC is free, so is the trolley that runs up and down King St in Alexandria. I understand depending on where you are getting to these places might negate the free aspect but you didn’t specify so I’m just throwing out ideas |

This. So many great free or low cost things to do. So many that we had to pick and choose every weekend when DS was a toddler to 6/7 years old. Raising a child in DC can be so enriching with all the art, music, theaters, culture, etc…. Now that he is 8 and has activities, sports, etc…. we have less time for these things but still fit some in when we can. |
If you are in VA, we had season passes to the Watermine for the years before we got into a pool. I hated it but the kids loved it. |
