It’s not available to take this summer.

It is at some schools.

Wheaton and Einstein both offer Health B this summer.

Are they inperson or online?

Einstein’s is in person. Health A in first session, B in second session.

No, Einstein is only offering Health B (in person), not Health A.

I mean, I appreciate that they're learning useful, practical things like that, but that's not what we added on an extra semester of health class for.

How is he taking it already? I thought the earliest would be this summer.

You just need permission from the school that this works for them. My son just did this and I emailed the transcript from BYU to the counselor.

This is so funny because I did this 30 years ago. I wonder if it’s the same course. It was not easy like HS health. I had to go in and take the tests in front of my guidance counselor.

It was available for the first time this school year. So he signed up for it last year when class registration happened.

Is this what is supposed to be covered in Health B? The county has been talking about Financial Literacy. Do they know all of this is being taught in Health B? More parents might actually be in favor if they knew Health B was actually Financial wellness.

My son says the teacher is just making these busywork tasks up because they ran out of curriculum. I don't know how true that is, but it definitely seems like the class material is lacking.

It's a pretty easy version so it must have been updated. But it's also got abstinence all through it.

Our HS did not offer it during school year due to lack of teaching staff. This summer they are offering it as an in person class from 8-12 am.

I have contacted the MCPS health SME, and they said that it should be available online next year during the school year, and hopefully over the summer.

Why is this only being offered at some schools

Same. I didn't realize you could split it up. Or would want to.

Or were both semesters not offered at some schools?

Interesting. My son just finished up Honors Health B at Magruder, and I thought the curriculum was good. And health related.

Units included:
Environmental Impact of Food Choices
STI prevention
Evaluating contraceptive choices
Relationship boundaries and consent
Interpersonal safety, abuse, assault, consent
Using Interpersonal communication to ask for help/to offer help
Grief and Loss/Healthy Coping
Impact of Substance Abuse
Stigmas in health care
Influence of racism and discrimination on health care
Personal health and wellbeing
Self wellness assessment

The countywide online curriculum/lessons aren't yet available. The schools offering it are developing their own lesson plans, some are offering online and others in-person. It sounds like some schools had Health B ready to teach during the 2022-23 school year.

My 2025 kid is taking it this summer online.

You can take it separate or a 2yr. It was premised on being taken separately w/Health content being more applicable to 9th/10yh grade students and Health B content more applicable to the 11th/12th.

Its a weird class and a TOTAL waste of time. Where we're living it looks like a class is going to replace it as requirement eventually (2030?) - based on ethnic diversity studies
