What was your experience like reading to your child’s class for their birthday?

That’s so fun! Pick a book with repetition. Pout Pout Fish is great for read aloud. You can give each character a funny voice. I do the pout pout fish voice by pretending I’ve been hit with a tranquilizer dart. It slays.

what the heck!? No one is forcing you to do this. Plenty of parents really, really enjoy this. Reading is so important to me and I love doing it. The kids sat so patiently and clapped when I was done. They actually made me read 3 books.

While I do feel really, really bad for kids whose parents don't participate in things, my kids really benefitted. There was only one kid whose parent didn't come for the Valentines party and she cried and cried. I felt AWFUL! But instead I think teachers should have taken her to another class for some other fun activity. My son still talks about how I came. I love seeing him and his little friends at school. I missed out on a few years there because of covid.

You can still be a wonderful parent even if you aren't able to come to daytime things. My dh can't easily miss work or change his schedule around on short notice.

Great choice!

I like to read Julia Donaldson books. Rhyming is great to read out loud. Giraffes can't dance is another.

I've done it a few times for ages 4-6. The kids were great and enjoyed the books each time. I look forward to it though so that may be the difference. Try a couple practice reads and see if that helps a little

This is one of my favorite memories of my kids' early elementary schools days. Hopefully, they've done this many times by this point in the school year and the kids will be good for you. Enjoy!

It's so fun!!! Here's a tip: If they start getting loud/talking to each other instead of listening, instead of raising your voice, lower it. They will quiet down so they can hear.
