WWYD-EZ pass issue

EZ pass sucks, I don't know why there are different rules in MD vs NJ when it's the same company

It's because it's not the same company — each state's transportation or highway department administers it in that state. They just all use the same transponder system through an interstate compact.

Because D.C. doesn't issue its own EZ Passes (I think because we have no toll highways), you can get one from any state you want; we got ours from Pennsylvania because they don't charge an annual fee, unlike Maryland. We don't drive toll roads often enough to care that it's marginally cheaper on the MD tolls with an MD EZ Pass...

Get the VA one since it does the HOV option if you ever drive with more than 3 people on 66. It doesn't cost anything other than the tolls, no recurring charges. I picked one up at Wegmans in Tyson and it was pre-loaded and ready to go.

Anyone can get one from any state and MD doesn’t have a fee anymore (just adding this information for anyone reading who might find it helpful; I understand that you are already all set).

Oh, good to know! It's been a long time since I last checked into the various EZ-Pass rules.
