I don't have spotting before or after a period. Does it lead right into the period and after it, or is there a pause in bleeding and then it starts up again?
The trans-vaginal ultrasound will put your mind at ease. It will look for cysts, fibroids, etc. If it makes you feel better, the people I know who have had something "major" wrong, from cysts on up, had substantial bleeding first. They will also measure your endometrial "stripe" for thickening, to check for endometriosis.
