When did your DC start to wave, clap and point at things?

Clapping - 7 months
Waving - can't do it regularly at 11 months, but sometimes. Especially if strangers say bye. Go figure.
Pointing - not yet.

I also saw babies DC's age and sometimes younger doing them. DC was clapping around 10 months, pointing by 11, and was right around 12 when waving inconsistently. I'm not saying "don't worry" or that it's not important as it is good to be aware, but at this point just keep showing your baby how to do these things and chances are, your baby will just do it one day soon.

Yes, it's my first baby and I read that these things were supposed to happen by 9 months, which I why I was concerned. However, it's good to see that a number of babies seem to do it later. Also, it's a boy and I was told that boys tend to reach milestones a little later than girls so maybe that's it. He does really well in other areas like all the physical stuff (crawling, pulling to stand, cruising, walking when we hold him) and he does babble a lot (says mama, dada...etc). Anyway- I will wait and see if he does it by 12 months. Thanks all for your replies.

Waving- 11 months
Clapping- 10 months
Pointing- 13/14 months. This one I was really freaked out about, especially when it didn't happen by 12 months. I had read that if kids didn't point by that time it was a sign of a developmental disorder (even autism). I tried so hard to teach him, but to no avail. I became somewhat obsessed by it (my first child too). Sure enough, by 13.5 months he was pointing at everything. So I think with some kids, it just takes time. Try not to freak out by the milestones in books (easier said than done!).

Mine is 8 months and doesn't do any of these things but he will give a high 5.

My 10 month old doesn't do any of these but I am not worried, because we haven't really "worked at it." I'm sure he would be much closer if WE actually modelled these things for him. I rarely remember to wave, can't recall clapping, and don't really point. He does say "Kit-Teh" though when looking at the cat, which I often do model becuase he loves the cat. I think he's fine.

10 months for all of the above, but I think it was because we practiced it together. In any event, I wouldn't worry at all at this point.

It's funny because I came on the the website to post a similar question about DS. He is almost 13mo and has pointed since 10/11 mo but does not wave or clap. He recently started to clap with someone else's hand, or high-five, but no clapping himself. At his 1 year appt. the dr did not seem concerned as long as he was consitantly pointing. But of course his playmates are all clapping and waving bye-bye so I can't help but worry a little.

At about 13 months. Interestingly, 13 months was also when he was pointing to everything and asking "what is that?".

My son will be one year old in two weeks. He has been pointing for a few weeks, started clapping yesterday (& it is so cute!), and is not waving yet.
