op is hoping someone will post that black people don't swim so they won't care. |
Op here. Thanks for the responses. “Of course” was my reaction too but our head coach asked and I wanted to be sure. |
It’s a federal holiday. Fair question. |
I'm not AA but I do think it's offensive. Our swim club also hosts an annual "luau" that I think is offensive too. |
Literally most black people never heard of it until it became a federal holiday we did not ask for. It's a Deep South thing. Nobody gives a rat's ass about you swimming |
These are 2 totally different things. A luau is appropriation and can be culturally insensitive. Simply practicing on a day that is a holiday is not offensive/no more offensive then doing any other activity on a holiday. |
Hmm |
Wow you have a hard time making analogies |
Black woman here and I disagree that most black people never heard of it. Although, for sure no one cares about anyone swimming. In fact, that's what my kids will be doing that day. |
Very, terribly offensive. |
That's horrible too. What message are we sending out? |
Stop sock puppeting |
get some exercise in before you go to the BBQ? Families are welcome to skip, most kids want to be there |
I want my exercise on the June teenth ya fig? |
Ditto. |
