I am an immigrant. My mom had come for three months to look after me after my first baby's birth.

There was no concept of nipple confusion for her so she as happily giving the baby my breastmilk from a spoon, a bottle and of course I as nursing. It was only later that I realized that in this country nipple confusion is considered an issue.

My DH took over the 4 am feeding from a bottle and I got to sleep through the night after the last feeding at midnight. I EBF my kids until 9 months and nursed them till they were 3 years old.

My child is 4 yo now but I continue to be appalled at how new mothers in the United States are discouraged from giving their newborn a bottle based on debunked claims that it will harm the breastfeeding relationship. For many families it is essential for the baby to be able to take a bottle. It should be a priority from a young age.

Usually LCs recommend to start introducing practice bottles by usually like week 3-4 and then the KEY and let me emphasize this again THE KEY is to not stop. Giving a bottle at 3 weeks and they take it easily and then say oh great he's fine with bottles is a mistake many of us have made. At 3 weeks they still have a suck reflex and are likely to take the bottle but once that goes away a few weeks later unless you're doing it every day or every other day or so, some babies will stop being interested and it can be so tough.

I introduced it after a month with no issues. Did not keep doing regularly until I weaned at six months and went to full time bottle cold turkey. My baby did not notice any differences. Funnily I've only read about nipple confusion online, it's never occurred any of the moms I know in real life.

About 3 weeks old. My SO gave him a bottle every night at bedtime with milk that I had pumped in the Hakaa in the morning. Otherwise I kept nursing.
