What's the big secret to finding a babysitter?

If you know anyone with a nanny or au pair, ask if you can speak with her to do babysitting for your kids on the side. That's how we found our babysitters and I feel so much more comfortable with them because they come recommended from friends.

we used asapsitters.com and found a lovely gal. Cheaper than sittercity if you're only looking for someone on occasion (i.e. every couple of months.)
