Ugh, op, I’m sorry. This would stress me out too. I don’t have experience to add other than I literally was planning to book a trip on Air Canada too with United miles and then saw if I wanted a seat, I’d need to buy that from Air Canada in addition, which was ridiculous because a regular economy seat entitles me to advance seat selection. The double dipping irritated me so much I abandoned the plan and didn’t book the flight. If they say they hold back certain seats for families then I don’t understand why they can’t assign them now. Why would they need to wait?
