The monthly fee covers utilities, facilities and staff. There are staff for maintenance, front desk, admin, the gym, etc. The food is not being made/served on a for-profit basis -- the meals are inexpensive (but surprisingly good!) but the fee doesn't cover a meal plan because not all residents eat their meals in the dining room or bistro.
The staff at Vinson Hall are amazingly nice and supportive. It's really a great place and my mom (and we) have no regrets about her moving there. If you need a home health aide or visiting nurse, that's going to be extra money. This is independent living, not assisted living. If/when you need to move to assisted living or memory care, there's a different set of financials that kick in -- you move out of your IL apartment (and get whatever money you get back if applicable) and then move into AL or memory care. But you haven't bought the apartment -- you're renting it for that monthly fee plus your buy-in. |
