Over and over.

Can you really, truly not understand them? Because if you can, and you just don't like the way they talk, you're a jerk.

Vocal fry is a documented speech disorder.

In the business world, it's worse than upspeak.

No it's not.

I am so sick of people policing how millennial women speak. You can understand them perfectly. They don't say "like" every other word and you know perfectly well what they mean when they use "literally" well, not literally. Vocal fry is some dumb thing invented by old American studies intellectuals who just want something to b itch about.

Uhm no. Speak properly and no one will care. When you adopt annoying habits such as vocal fry (endemic with millennial women) people are going to notice and say something. In short, stop being annoying and no one will be annoyed.

Ha wanna have a link war?

Vocal fry can be a symptom of a problem, but isn't a problem in and of itself. Many people with normal speech have some vocal fry in their speech.

Also isn't it weird to say that a speech *disorder* is a professional problem? If it's really a disorder isn't bad to be discriminatory against it? But it's not a disorder, people just have a bias against it the same way they have a bias against southern accents and glottal stops followed by an aspiration. So yes if somebody wants to get ahead in the workplace they might want to change their voice but not because it's a disorder.

I am to distracted by his glottal stop and swallowed consonants to notice the fry.

But if Diane Rheim could be on the radio anyone can.

No idea what you’re referring to.

No Vocal fry
No Speaking loudly
Being assertive is too aggressive
No Saying “like” and “um”
Don’t be too pretty or not pretty enough
Never talk about your children
Never apologize
Don’t say “yes”
Don’t say “no” but also remember don’t say “yes”
Don’t say “just”
Be confident but don’t because “assertive is aggressive “
Don’t drink but also try to get invited to events for face time and drink with the team but also don’t drink.
Find a mentor but also never be alone with your male boss.
Don’t yell but also get use to being yelled at.

What else I’m losing track

Actually, studies have shown that men and women use the same amount of “filler words” like “uh” and “um” when they speak. Ask yourself why you are choosing to notice and judge women more than men. Ask yourself why younger women bother you. Ask yourself why you are worried about anyone else’s “gravitas” but your own.

Over and over.

What a menopausal maniac. Don't worry, they f_ucking hate you right back and probably send each other slack messages about how old and annoying you are.

I see this post really touched the nerve with a lot of you. Also, while it's true that it's mostly women that utilize vocal fry, there are plenty of men speaking that way too.

Doesn’t post nasal drip or acids reflux also cause vocal fry in the throat and vocal cords?

Plus nerves can sometimes. Get some air and take deep breathes before and while speaking.

If all the time, go to the doctor.
