Does anyone do acupuncture? Does it actually work?

I did for fertility twice and got pregnant both times. No idea if it was related, but if nothing else it was very relaxing and helped with stress reduction. It didn’t hurt.

I did it for TMJ and it helped immensely. Maybe 6 sessions of acupuncture and PT.

I did it for a severe muscle spasm in my neck, and it helped.

I’ve never tried it for chronic issues.

I just heard today about magnesium baths working wonders for a frozen shoulder. Like at a spa in Virginia? Just thought I’d throw that your way. Good luck.

I had acupuncture for a frozen shoulder and it worked great. Had 90% movement after 3 sessions

I did it for fertility, and after a lifetime of long, irregular cycles, my cycles became regular after just a few months, and I got pregnant.

It has also helped my spouse with easing symptoms of moderate ulcerative colitis. Medication was helpful with the worst of it, with the acupuncture serving as a complement.

I did it for fertility and my cycles became regular after I started but I still didn't get pregnant until about 6 months later when we did IUI. The cycles could have been a coincidence, who knows. But it made me feel really good, so it was worth it. It was sooo relaxing.

The scientific evidence indicates that acupuncture is no better than placebo for almost every single ailment (there is some evidence that it improves shoulder/neck muscle problems slightly better than placebo). So, all these anecdotes are great but no, in general large sample, well designed studies show that acupuncture is about as good as a sugar pill. But, if you're in it for the placebo effect, go for it.

I've been doing acupuncture for 7 years for chronic migraine. It has not gotten rid of migraines but it is a de-stresser, keeps me rested and relieves me of associated muscle aches. That has minimized migraine attacks and severity levels. You may consider self-care activities a placebo effect but they are decidedly not. Minimizing stress can actually be a life saver for many - as stress is a trigger and/or contributing factor for most chronic pain. My acupuncturist does massage, cupping and gua sha - depending on the day. All of these contribute to an overall state of well-being. So yes, it works.

There are studies indicating efficacy for infertility and ibs conditions.

I did it for fertility treatment. While it was relaxing and all, I didn't care for the push to sell me herbs along with the acupuncture sessions. Also got it for sinus issues, and the relief from pressure was pretty immediate. But was told it's not a long term solution.

It's good for certain pain reliefs, but not the panacea some think.

As you most likely intend to have your sinuses long-term, it would make sense that they may need treatment long-term if there is an inherent issue. Nothing is going to make fresh new sinuses for you.

Years ago, one targeted session flipped my breech baby and enabled me to avoid a c-section. Have used acupuncture several times since then for plantar fasciitis and knee issues. Have also had two dogs who had their quality of life significantly improved in old age through arthritis pain management. Like a PP, I'm talking about going from extreme stiffness and difficulty getting up to running and playing like puppies. A friend used acupuncture throughout chemotherapy to minimize side effects. It definitely helps a lot of people.

It worked for me for very persistent plantar fasciitis.

I've used acupunture for other things but when I had frozen shoulder what really worked was a coritzone injection. PT didn't make any progress until that was done.
