Haven't found one for the flipping but here is one for sleeping in a crib Citation to law here: http://mdrules.elaws.us/comar/13a.16.09.04 F. Soft bedding items, including but not limited to pillows, quilts, comforters, and crib bumpers, may not be used as rest furnishings for a child using a crib. Citation to inspection criteria here (p. 12): https://earlychildhood.marylandpublicschools.org/system/files/filedepot/3/09_program_requirements.pdf F. Soft bedding items, including but not limited to pillows, quilts, comforters, and crib bumpers, may not be used as rest furnishings for a child using a crib. INTENT: When used with very young children, soft bedding items pose a potential suffocation hazard and have been linked to the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS); therefore, they are not permitted. INSPECTION REPORT ITEM: "No Soft Bedding with Cribs" COMPLIANCE CRITERIA: Soft bedding items are not used with any child younger than 18-months-old. |
I would look up to see if they had any previous violations of this during an inspection. I’d want to know if they are still doing this after being told not to.
I think you’re also able to report a violation and they will send an inspector. I’m not sure I would trust them to change and not just say ok we’ll stop. |
DP. My source was my pediatrician. Maybe have your ped write them a note? |
I’m licensed here in maryland. They are wrong. Babies are not allowed to nap with a pillow, blanket or in a device like a swing, car seat or chair. They must sleep and must be placed to sleep in their cribs and pit to sleep on their backs. However, once they can flip themselves on to their stomachs, they do not need to be flipped.
Reach out to their licensor so that they can take corrective actions. |
Mine once sent me a photo of my DC sleeping in the infant carseat, they places the seat in the crib! I asked them not to do that and they stopped. Talk to the director and the teachers and be clear that what they are doing is not acceptable. |
Here’s the quote for the regulations on not needing to flip the kid.
Rest Time Safety. A. Unless specified otherwise in writing by the child's physician, a child who: (1) Cannot roll over without assistance shall be placed for sleep on the child's back; or (2) Is younger than 12 months old but can roll over unassisted shall be placed for sleep on the child's back, but may be allowed to adopt whatever position the child prefers for sleep. B. Unless the need for a positioning device is specified in writing by a child’s physician, a restricting device of any type, including swaddling, may not be applied to a resting child. If you otherwise like this daycare I would just make it clear you don’t want them to use a boppy for your kid. |
My provider says she can't keep the baby sleeping in the carseat. She immediately takes him out. She says all babies must sleep on thier back on the crib and if they flip its fine. No need to move him. The baby is learning to move around. And always at first put the baby sleep on his back |
I forgot. This is in Maryland. And she says nothing in the crib besides a pacifier but that's it |
OP, can you update with how they respond? I suspect my older child may be at the same daycare and we expect to send our infant in the future. |
I hope she updates as well. Why you think you’re at the same day care? Have you seen unsafe sleep practices? If so, please please reach out to Licensing so they can correct them on this. |
