4 in college and never shopped dormify. |
kid just finished soph year, also never heard of this |
| 3 in college, all shop at dormify. So do their friends. |
| I had never heard of it but I just looked at it. My guess it is a southern school thing or $$$$ thing. I have never seen a dorm room that looked anything like the photos there. |

Check.
Not gift cards, not cash. Give a freaking check. (In the rare case that the kid doess not have an account - make a check out in the Parents name. Write "For Larlo's graduation gift" in the memo. Make sure that Larlo and parents, both know that the cash gift is for the kid. ) In the past, we have been able to deposit the checks made out in the name of our kids into our account. Have you ever seen someone throw away a dollar in the trash deliberately? No. Cash (in the form of a check) is the best gift in 99% of occasions. |
No one shops at Dormify. Mostly we got what we wanted from Amazon, bedsheets from Target and Kohls on sale and pillows from Costco and a few things from Ikea.
Once upon a time it used to be Bed, Bath and Beyond. But that store is kaput! Buy less things. Go minimalistic and then buy what is really needed from Amazon. My DS has access to our Amazon account. He and his roommate coordinated on their beddings but basically they waited for a few weeks to figure out how they wanted to decorate their room. After looking at the rooms of other students they had a good idea of how to arrange their furniture to make their room functional, welcoming and spacious. They have one of the nicest, smartest and cleanest room and it works as a party room too. No guest (*read girls) want to party in a room which is dirty, gross and stinky. |
| shark vacuum. |
No one at either of my kids' schools buys from Dormify. |
Not all dorms allow functional appliances. My oldest son's school didn't allow anything other than a mini fridge and microwave, and even those had specifications. |
| Amazon gift card |
| Is Dormify easy to work with for kids going to school far away? |
+1 No gift cards. My kids are terrible another spending them. Cash is best. |
replica pillows of their pets, if any, were huge last year. |
| Neither of my kids shopped at Dormify, but plenty of their friends did. Relieved to have been spared of the matching headboard planning. |
| I keep seeing dormify head boards for sale on my rising freshman’s school parents site. I scares me that everyone at the school buys that. We live a plane ride away so that would be tough for us to wrangle and my DD seemed to think it was unnecessary. I wonder if DD is going to get there and wish she had one of those headboards. I could get one now cheap so I wish I knew if she was going to want it. |
