They didn’t start it to be racist (I hope). The OP was basically encapsulating how, progressives, in their attempts to lower disparate impact rates of arrest, incarceration etc, (which are clearly lopsided) are doing so by creating a more permissive environment for crime. And anyone who complains about the statistics or why crime is rising etc is shut down with a label of “racist”. This is a tough conversation to have. You can’t just allow crime to happen. Or give restorative Justice hugs instead of jail because it’s “fair”.

Sadly, this is true. Ironically, what is truly racist is to ignore a growing crime problem that is mostly affecting minorities. We are just going to let black kids get shot every day because it makes us feel better about ourselves if we don't incarcerate? Ridiculous.

It's one of many things that's needed. If kids are extremely below where they should be on PARCC they should be sent to a summer camp to improve those skills. A lot of these kids aren't even employable. I was in a fast food place a while back and noticed in one of the booths, an older gentleman was helping a teen fill out a job application. It was clearly evident the kid wasn't literate enough to navigate it on his own. And if a regular job is not an option, they will turn to other, less legit means of getting money.
