Just sharing that we had a very similar experience at the three tryouts for our son with 9U boys. By the end of Sunday, he was playing on the field with the returning players. (We know a returning player.)

We haven't heard anything either from Arlington, other than the email on Monday saying by EOW.

We actually got an offer this morning from another club, and I emailed Arlington this morning to ask when they'd send notifications. No response yet. (Our friend with the returning player hasn't gotten an offer yet either.)

Hopefully tomorrow?

So we got the girl's U9 email--- daughter didn't make it. Like I said above, she is only 6 and in kindergarten but for some reason the tryouts were open to those born in 2016. I thought she did so well....but we will continue with rec for now. She can't tryout for ADP b/c she doesn't make birthday cutoff. Still don't get why she was allowed travel tryout but not ADP.....gonna be a sad convo to have after school today

So sorry to hear that! ASA runs their Rec and ADP leagues by school year (to keep things more fun/with friends), while Travel is by birth year - subject to national and regional standards. Your daughter can try out next year though, and with the added experience of knowing what the tryouts are like, and with another year of Rec, good chance she'll be even stronger for it next year. Not all bad!

Just to close the loop here. We did get an offer from Arlington this morning, which we're going to accept.

Congrats!!!!! I hope more people post their results.... then it really gives everyone a better sense of what to make of these tryouts and what it all means. Even though my daughter didn't make it, I have become such a fan and was really all in. I never in my life played soccer and now at 44, I have a new favorite sport lololol

For example, why are returning players guaranteed a spot and newcomers who are potentially better than existing players left with fewer options. Seems paradoxical and not great for the organization to keep mediocre existing players over new stronger players. We just moved to the area, and I've seen a few girls on the lower teams and my daughter who is defense appears much stronger. Wish I know how challenging this process is because I would have insisted, she try out for a different league.

Existing players were told that roster spots are not guaranteed.

This is correct. Current players are not guaranteed a spot for next year. Arlington does not have them come to ID sessions because they know these players and have been watching them all year and because if they all came to the ID session, it would be harder for the coaches to find/watch the new players. That said, if they are going to replace an existing player, the coaches are generally looking for a stronger player, not someone who it at the level of the player they would replace.

Yeah she will initially be upset b/c she's ....6. But I am ok with it.....If she continues to love it, we will just try out again next year. And whatever....she can continue to be a kindergarten rec beast.

Some clubs let much younger kids register in order to advertise their club so that you can spread the word and when your child is of age you will come back.

Just following up because our daughter had a call back to practice Friday and we haven't heard since. Just curious if others at that call back knew more or had heard one way or the other.

Thanks!
