Since you are an official, ask the other officials how LC season goes in your area. What kind of official are you? If you are on the deck, I would say LC is long. Lots of strokes to watch. And if it’s outdoor, wear lots of sunscreen. |
I think there are several different posters here and one angry one. |
Wasn’t this OP who got attacked for saying “we” and then explained they are an official so they go to all the meets? Officials are way more knowledgeable about USA swimming than regular swim parents, so I suggested they should ask their official friends. I’m training to be an official after 6 years of being a regular swim parent who only timed, and I had no idea swim meets were so complicated |
Or they’ll have a terrible, unprepared experience and hate it forever. My kid’s best event is 200 fly, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to suffer through him doing 200 breast. Our group doesn’t do IMX once they hit middle school group, so there has been no time/reason to use a meet entry on 200 breast or back for my kid. |
I do think IMX loses its utility after age 12 because the 200s of each stroke are just not something every kid needs to do in competition. |
We were not at PAC, but there was another meet with a similar issue. There were 8 and unders doing the 200 free. I’m sorry but that just should not be allowed. The 12&U sessions need to put limits on what events the 8 and unders can do, or have cut times to enter any event other than a 50, otherwise you’re are holding up the whole meet with heats of 6-8 year olds trying to make it through the 200 free, 100 breast, 100 fly and 100 back. |
Or they drown. |
Completely agree. I think that if the kid is not being successful at the mini meets why would you do this to them at a 12&U meet. Sometimes parents push and refuse to listen to their coaches. |
I was there too. I saw a very slow kid but didn’t look like he was drowning imo. This was later in the afternoon. Anyway, it’s the parents who sign their kids up not the coaches. Although I don’t disagree with you. |
Pretty sure that kid you're talking about is in 9/10, has a disability, and is also super proud of himself when he makes it across the pool. I love that kid. His enthusiasm is infectious. Don't be a hater. |
I have no idea if the kid has a disability but the guard got out of the chair and was walking the deck out of concern. The kid grabbed the lane line several times and was drowning (legs not up, and head back). I think that swimming long course was pushing past this kids skill set. It was not safe. |
If it’s parents picking the events for their kids, there definitely should be NST cut times for the 8&Us so that the coaches can just say sorry, Larla can’t finish the 200 free in under 4 minutes so she can’t enter it. Parents of 8&Us also need to get a grip, there is no need for your kid to be doing LC 100s of anything other than freestyle. This seems to be more a problem during LC since there doesn’t seem to be LC mini meets, so they just let the little kids swim in the 12&U session. |
Yeah same kid. He wasn't drowning. He swims like that and occasionally grabs the lane line. Simmer down. |
