Italian Store is delicious, and I say this as someone from Philly. Get the hard rolls if you are going with oil, tomato, or anything moist on your sandwich. They hold their crunch very well.

Yes, like onions and cheap bread soaked in vinegar. I don’t know where in Philly PP was from, but it must be a part with uncharacteristically bad sandwiches.

Total garbage when you consider the alternatives


Always get the hard roll. I’d love to know what alternatives there are around here that come close. I grew up in NY — it’s no comparison to a NY deli but it’s the best we have in VA.

The hard roll is the one that has the consistency of paper mache. And no, there are unfortunately no alternatives in Arlington.

The Sandwich Shop in Vienna is nice if you are nearby but I wouldn’t drive out of the way for it.
