I have stayed there and not sure I would again. The place is a zoo, although the rooms aren't any like lots of NYC hotels. FWIW, it is the most redeemed Marriott points hotel in the world. |
The Sheraton Times Square was pretty nice when we stayed there in February and reasonably priced and located |
Thais is my wheelhouse as we have mega Marriott points and my son lives the nyc so we visit often.. if you want something quieter and still an excellent location. Courtyard Chelsea on w 34th. Close to Penn Station, Midtown, the Highline, theaters and more but also on a quiet sides street. Upper east side recs include the Lexington ( boutique hotel feel) at 50th and Lexington. Right behind it is a residence inn where I once stayed in the largest hotel room I have ever seen. It had a kitchen and 1.5 baths which is bananas for NYC. |
But the center of kid gravity in New York is now around the World Trade Center, and Brooklyn. I can see going to Midtown for a conference. But what would kids really do there, other than get mauled by ex-cons in Elmo costumes? Museums, I guess, but there’re museums in DC. |
If midtown is not where you want to stay, there are about 50 Marriott properties in Manhattan. Go on Marriott.com, find an area you want to visit, search in your price range. |
We like the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge. It has a nice pool. |
HAve you considered Moxy? It has bunks and they all have lights and ledges. I liked it. Family of four. Not a big room, but right down near Times Square so we walked to our Broadway Show. |
Former marquis poster. Broadway shows were a big part of our trip so the marquis location was perfect. Short walk to both theaters. Also short walk to Lego store and toy shopping at Rockefeller center. |
Wheel house poster here. Then stay in the fidi or Brooklyn. However midtown ((not ness Times Square and the mauling Elmos) is centrally located for quick subway access to everything else. In my experience. |
We just stayed there. Our room can best be described as spartan. Felt like a hipster hostel. Not recommended for anyone but a young solo traveler who only uses the room to sleep. |
We've stayed at the Marquis but are looking to go to NYC in the spring and want to stay somewhere more low key. Anyone have experience with the Moxy in Lower East Side? Any other suggestions? Kids are teens. |
I was just going to suggest the Moxy hotels. I’ve stayed at the East Village one. Great location. Lower key than the chaos of midtown. Funky rooms. Some have bunks. That would be fun for kids. The rooms are well designed and efficient but they are small be warned. But you’re not going to NYC to hang out in the room! |
I stayed here over the summer and nearly had a panic attack. It was so small felt claustrophobic and I hated how you had to close the blind on the door which lead to the hallway. Very euro hostile vibe. Perhaps with family I wouldn’t feel that way but it’s so teeny you won’t be able to do anything in the room but sleep and shower. That being said, it was quiet for being in Times Square and the water pressure was great and hot. Those are things I can’t always say for a nicer room. |
Same. |
We recently stayed at the Westin Times Square (Bonvoy/Marriott brand) and were really unhappy with the amount of noise from the streets. We've stayed in NYC many times and have not heard sirens/traffic/horns all night like at that location. |
