Virtual Academy is closed registration. No new students. It is eventfully going away.
You will need to withdraw and then re-enroll. It would be illegal for you to have a child enrolled in MCPS who does not live here. --MCPS high school registrar |
Are you saying that VA is eventually going away? I thought it was here to stay as an option. |
| Teacher in MCPS, yes it is possible! But you will need to push for it, because its the end of the year and the persons approving such a request gets lazy because summer break is near. |
How do you know it will eventually go away? Registration is closed but they will accept students on an as needed basis depending on the situation and if there is space. |
It is as long as they have the student numbers to justify it. |
|
The plan is to eliminate it.

Where are you hearing this? |
Probably the rumor mill. Until the BoE makes a decision, it's just a possibility. But then the Virtual School haters have been rumoring its demise since its inception. |
This is a troll. |
| I think they are really strict about the virtual academy and people need to commit for the full year. If you miss 15 consecutive days of school you have to withdraw and I think maybe even repeat a grade. But I think you can probably work something out with your local school where they will accept school done in your temporary residence and hold a place in your children's current class/es for them when they return. Good luck and hope you are going some place great. |
If your "temporary residence" is outside of MCPS you must withdraw. You just re-register when you return. This happens all the time when the numerous Central American students return to their country for a month or more, then return. The process is explained to them ahead of time, if they bother to inform the school of their plans. |
But no one repeats a grade for missing 2 weeks of school. MCPS wants to move kids through. |
Of course you don’t have to repeat a grade. Why would you have to repeat a grade? OP will have to follow the school requirements of her new jurisdiction and either send the kids to school or homeschool there, however they do it. And then that time will be counted, just like anyone who moves away and comes back. |
Are you working for or have kids in the VA? Clearly no. |
