This is a very useful (and funny!) thread. Thx to OP and all PPs!

| Best fan ever is on sale at Costco right now. The Woozoo. Buy 2 if no AC in the dorm. |
| My DD found a bedside shelf/tray essential. The bed was on risers, so she didn’t have a bedside table at the right height. It attaches to the side of the bed and you can find it on Amazon. Search “bedside shelf for dorm” |
| We've packed three off to college (2 DS and 1 DD). Your kid needs and even wants a lot less than you think. Only real needs other than linens (self-evident) and tech (kids will know) are a mattress topper, a fan and storage containers for under the bed. As for wants, this will vary among DS, but will likely be pretty minimal. In any case, they will figure it out. DD -- even one who is not princess-y -- will want a lot more (e.g., fairy lights, special pillows, photo collages, etc., etc., etc.) and will figure this out after much consultation with HS pals and new roomie. I know it's tempting to want to buy a lot of stuff, but they can easily order whatever they discover is needed after they move in. |

So many of the things are kid and room dependent but at a minimum
- be on the lookout for a good mattress topper and mattress pad - my kid says they like their bed at college better because it’s so comfortable due to the topper and mattress pad - computer if you plan to buy one for college - ubiquitous Ikea Frakta bags - quality power strips with long cord (outlets might be inconveniently placed) that meets the dorm fire code - Woozoo fans if you think your kid will use a table fan - backpack if they need a new one - the North Face backpacks seemed somewhat common |
