I don't think there is any preschool teaching 3 year olds that doesn't teach kids the ABCs through songs, etc. That is not the same thing as looking for phonics. +1. My three year old are not ready for phonics. They don't have the attention span or the desire to learn about the sounds letters make in a meaningful way. And that's OK because they are three. You need letter recognition to learn phonics and letter recognition is absolutely something that 3 year olds start to learn. 4 year olds can start to match some letters sounds. |
Also self- advocating skills are critical to survive in MCPS K. Look for a preschool that will encourage confidence-building. |
