8 Year Old Playing Pretend

Anonymous
I remember us doing this one time with my friends younger brother about that age. He didn’t seem to mind being the baby even drinking a bottle and getting a diaper.

that is what my 8 y/o and her friends do. they often play family.

I played pretend (although more witches and princesses than babies) up until middle school... at which point we started calling it acting or novel-writing but it was functionally the same thing. At 8? Super normal.

We are still deep into I’m a cat.

I twitch when I hear DD meow.

Mine wrapped herself around my legs and rubbed her head on my knees this morning. We don't even have a cat, I have no idea where she learned that behavior.

This is not the first time on this forum that parents are concerned about their kids acting like kids.

Are you seriously the first response yet have nothing to contribute?

Why is it bad for an 8 year old to act like a kid?

Definitely need to get her to do less pretend place and really focus on her tiktok dance practice.

Yep. Lot of people want their kids to be older. My 10 year old still plays pretend, including by herself. She's got an amazing imagination and pretend play is so, so, so good for kids. Doesn't bother or worry me in the slightest.

My 7yr and my sister (40) play barbies over Facetime. They both love the pretend phase. It's really sweet.

oh god when does I'm a cat end? Also I'm a puppy. Will I mourn it? Is that when I have to get an actual dog?

Hahah, my 9 year old still gives me the occasional meow. What's up with that?!
