Favorite "hidden treasure" restaurants in the area?

But it's owned and run by this adorable couple - they owned a restaurant in Korea and set up shop in Mt. Pleasant I forget how many years ago. Order off the Korean menu. (They have "Chinese" and "Japanese" as well but both are subpar.) The bibimbap is really good. I'm also a fan of their spicy squid, seafood pajun, and their soups.

Yes! I love their kim chi soup!

Could not disagree more about Piccolo. Mediocre food at best. And while there may be a "glut" of Italian restaurants (although I don't know were they all are) there is certainly not a glut of good ones. In fact, lack of good Italian food is, in my mind, one of the DC area's greatest food shortcomings.

The kids and I both love their udon noodle soup too - I think it breaks the "don't order off the Japanese menu" rule, but I don't care.

A third for Il Pizzico in Rockville. The location is weird (in a strip mall next to a gas station), but it's so good.

Tiffin in Langly Park, on Zaggat listing, exceptional Indian food (even all you can eat buffet!).

LOVE Ravi Kabob!!

Also Picante in Chantilly has AMAZING Mexican. The beef fajita taco is yummy and only 7 bucks!

Great Wall Szechuan on 14th between O and P, NW. Only be sure you order from the MaLa part of the menu. A lot of the other stuff is so-so but the MaLa dishes are wonderful!

I also like the Big Greek Cafe in downtown Silver Spring--works really well for a quick bite with the kids.

Arlington spots that are all cheap and goooood: El Charrito Caminante for tacos and pupusas, Ravi Kabob as mentioned above, Super Pollo for Peruvian chicken with interesting side dishes (chicken fried rice!), Thai Square for crispy honey roasted duck, and Pupatella for Neapolitan-style pizza. Don't know how "hidden" they are, since they're always pretty crowded when I go there, but they're definitely holes-in-the-wall!

Speaking of chicken places - Pollo Sabroso. There's one in Mt. Pleasant and one in Columbia Heights. Their chicken is good, but I really love their tacos.

Also, I think they're calling it the "Latin Market," the folks who set up on the weekends in Adams Morgan. I haven't had a bad meal from them yet, and they're so inexpensive. Plus, it's just a fun local neighborhood thing to do - I like to give them my business.
