Nope nothing at our MS for either of my kids. They did do a trip to Kings Dominion which the kids loved. |
I think my kids (now older teens) only had 8th grade awards ceremonies at NB, with parents packed in the bleachers. It was nice that the chorus sang, but it certainly wasn't a full-on graduation feel. |
Still no parents at North Bethesda, I think the firecode prevents it! |
Most schools do, ours will not this year. |
I don’t know why you say “bottom out of hand” like this is a recent helicopter parent bing. I had one in 1986 in my hometown. My mother had one in the 1940s and when my grandmother taught middle school in the 1920s, they had an 8th grade graduation. Three different states, three different decades. I’m not really bent out of shape about it but it does seem to me kind of odd not to have anything. |
Stupid auto correct. Sorry for typos above. |
In the 1920s, an 8th grade graduation was important because it was much less common to go on to high school. For most, that WAS their graduation! In 1910, 8.8% of American students graduated high school. By 1930, the number was up to 29%, and in 1950 it was 59%. I had mine in California in the 1980s. Call it a promotion. I feel like staff just don’t want to deal with it. |
Yes, it’s more of a hassle for the staff. |
It’s on the community calendar that is linked to each of Ms Martin’s newsletters. June 12 |
My kid’s school is doing one. It’s at their school but they’re splitting the group into 2 to accommodate everyone. |
The more kid-focused events are usually ones staff prefer from what I've seen. Hopefully the kids like whatever is done too. |
They should have a grade level event but not a graduation ceremony.
