PSA: An average guy suddenly looks extremely attractive next to a guitar

Competency is a huge turn-on for women. Pick something you like and be the best you can be at it. It's probably a signal for some deeper psychological need. Like if a problem arises, the guy is capable of sticking with it long enough to figure out a solution.

My son is a savant with the trombone. He has a girlfriend, but women aren't exactly throwing themselves at him. So, I wouldn't go overboard with the though that hobbies or musical instruments are automatically chick magnets.

Women just seem to like some instruments more than each other. Guitar for sure. The average saxophone is going to get more attention than, say, a tuba.

This is…not news

I think this is very true. It shows a willingness and capability to dig in and overcome obstacles. Evolutionarily hot.

DH got me with his grand piano. To this day, if I’m upset about something, when he starts playing, it all just melts away.

uhh.. not really. A guy who plays the violin isn't really hot.

Np. Disagree. Way hotter and more interesting than guitar.

Disagree. Fiddle players can get it.

Anonymous wrote:It's not the guitar, it's the fact you have a hobby. "Young professional who did college sports" is boring. "Guy who is into a thing I am also at least mildly into" is good.

And bonus, you will self select out the ones who aren't interested in musicians, which drives up your success rate.

So a guy who’s really good at gaming and takes pictures with his gaming systems will start getting more interest from women?

That statement is so ridiculous. If that were true, you would not have so many Asian nerds because so many of them play violin or cello. I think we can agree that the most famous violinist in the world, Joshua Bell, would be able to walk around the street without being recognized by anyone. On the other hand, John Mayer would be mobbed by women the minute he walks around the street.

I love music so I love hanging out with musical people. I generally don't date musicians because the hours are too opposite of my schedule, but dating a guy who does it as a hobby is awesome.

So...will the ladies be dating you or your guitar ?

Anonymous wrote:My cousin and I, both of us are average looking, around five on a scale of ten. We took seven photos both indoors and outdoors, and used them in their profile on match.com and bumble sites. In the description, we stated that we are young professionals with a good salary working in hi-tech, looking for a romantic relationship. We also listed that we both played D1 college sports. After six weeks on match and bumble sites, they got a few hits here and there. We also reached out to about 50 ladies but got rejected by almost all of them. In other words, it was pretty much a failure.

In the seventh week, we replaced four of the pictures from the profile with pictures that showed us with acoustic and electric guitars. In the description, I said that we play guitars as a serious hobby and added a few links on YouTube that recorded music that we play such as Eric Clapton, Miley Cyrus, John Mayer, etc.. Within three days, we were flooded with requests from women who were interested in going out with us, many of them were the same ones who rejected us before.

Bottom line, you will go from a five to a ten if you know how to play a musical instrument, especially a guitar. Glad I didn't give up on guitar when I was 14 years old.

Just for fun, next time lose the guitar and add an old wallet stuffed with benjamins.

Anonymous wrote:I had been telling my teen DS this for a while. He finally took a guitar class as his art credit in HS, and then looked online to teach himself how to play some music.

I had played guitar in my youth. I learned this early on, and I'm a woman. I told DS that there is something about a man who can play music (and sing) that seems to attract women.

Another PSA: if your teen DS wants to meet hetero females, join the theater club/drama dept.

OMG no. Actors, all actors, are narcissists. Told son: hard avoid. You want those athletes- tennis tend to be top.
