The thing is, even if it's moved, it shows such an appalling lack of judgment, and lack of supervision that my kid wouldn't go back.

This. Do you want your kid being cared for by people with no basic common sense?

My aunt has massive scar tissue down her back where milk boiling on the stove hit her when she was a toddler.

You are right to escalate this issue, OP.

I asked the lead teacher to move it, because, you know, it’s unsafe if a kid topples it and burns themself, and she pushed back saying the kids listen to her and know to stay away from it and she keeps a good eye on them. Huh?

Is it on a solid, sturdy table? I’m trying to imagine how it would topple.

Your daycare must not be licensed. Check into it and talk to the director.

No need to talk about this with other moms. Call licensing and talk to the director.

You're not overreacting, OP. It's INSANE to say that infants, toddlers, or preschoolers could be trusted not to scald themselves. Definitely escalate, and don't feel bad about it. You gave the teacher a chance to fix it by speaking to her directly first.

OP, move your kid to a different state
