Why do people want to bring their dog to our house?

Anonymous
I almost wrote this exact post this weekend OP! Why does everyone want to bring their dog to my house? With one family the dogs aren’t well-trained. The dogs get into everything and wipe their bottoms on our rugs. With the other family, it’s my sibling in law who just got a dog and isn’t the most responsible so I’m not up for double hosting/taking care of their dog when we have events. Our house is not set up for dogs. And we don’t even have a good excuse because we don’t have pets but my spouse is fed up and won’t invite that couple over anymore. My spouse won’t let me be direct and communicate the behavior issues so I’m thinking about getting a cat to curtail the issue. 😂

This is insanity. You should not feel like you need to get a pet of your own so you have an excuse to not welcome other people’s pets at YOUR HOME. And, you are also welcome to host events that do not include people’s kids!!

Seriously. Your DH would rather not have friends over than to say "sorry, our house is not set up for dogs. but we'd love if you came over." Maybe your DH doesn't want them over and is using the dog as an excuse? In which case don't burst his bubble

Don't overthink it, it's exactly this.

Most likely their dog has separation anxiety. Our pup has it, and we are currently training him, but we can't leave him for extended times. Especially if the dog is a pandemic pup, I'm assuming it is seperation anxiety.

This is 100 percent a pandemic puppy problem. A bunch of ppl w no experience w animals got puppies and didn’t properly train them (or themselves). Now everyone, humans and animals, have separation anxiety.

In your specific case, it’s because they think you’re a dog friendly home and it would be fun to have the dogs play together. I don’t think that part is weird. They’re asking you and it’s OK to say no.

Gross.

Sometimes people think if their dogs can play with your dog than it is a win-win. sort of like if you had kids the same age. Just say no

Same reason they bring siblings to birthday parties. It’s easier for them.
